It’s that time of year again where we eat a ridiculous amount of chocolate, decorate eggs and cookies, and in some cases hear aunts talk religion and the meaning of Easter. Every year my cousins come over and we decorate Easter Eggs, however… this year, i decided to forgo the egg decorating and went with bunny sugar cookies instead. It was a fun change from the eggs (I also tried to throw in some math in there when we were measuring out the ingredients. LOL).

Although Toronto Fashion Week officially started Sunday, people were not without a fashion event to attend in the weeks and days leading up to the official event. So it looks like Halston has got itself a new designer, miss Carrie Bradshaw herself, Sarah Jessica Parker. In an attempt to relive the days of Studio 54, the Bay and This Is London tried to recreate the days of good old disco, complete with disco balls and an illuminated dance floor. To be completely honest, This is London may look like this all the time and I wouldn’t know, this being my 2nd time there, and quite possibly my last. Anyway, good friend Fritz Helder performed to what could’ve been a sleeping audience. Seriously, you could hear crickets, the crowd was so dead.

Anyway, here are some shots pre and post party. Oh and in true Studio 54 spirit, photos are black and white. lol

After months living in the arctic tundra, the sun has come out to play. Alright, I’m exaggerating, we had quite the mild winter, very little snow, mild temperatures, etc. Anyway, in true Canadian fashion, when that first sign of Spring is in the air, we flock to the streets, put on our Spring transition gear and go get some ice cream and take a stroll through the neighbourhood. Here we are taking up prime real estate and hanging out round town.

O.k. So the Olympics are underway, and actually almost over. It’s funny how everyone, all of a sudden, gets really into sports (can we just talk about how EVERYONE was into that hockey game sunday?). Anyway, I’ll admit it, I am was one of those people. I could give two shits about sports any other time of the year, but when the olympics are on, or playoff games are happening, I jump on that wagon with everyone else and get REAL crazy. ha ha. There’s a sense of patriotism that comes over me, I just like seeing Canada beat out other countries. Isn’t that the whole point of the Olympics? To see your country beat another country? Well tonight we’ll see if Canada will beat Russia, otherwise it’s a no go for the boys. Oh well, there’s always the ladies hockey team.

Oh, and can we talk about what happened to ski ballet? Where did that event go? If you don’t know what the amazingness that is ski ballet, go to YouTube and look it up.

I guess i’ll just keep growing this beard for the athletes. (my favourite television advert at the moment)

Protestin the Prorogue

Last Saturday, Jan 24 2010, thousands of Canadians gathered in Toronto’s Dundas Square to march in protest of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s decision to prorogue Parliament. Not gonna lie, I wasn’t entirely too sure what that meant, but had many friends tell me that this was not a good thing. After much research (google search: Prorogue + Stephen Harper LOL) I figured it all out, *light bulb* he’s pushed the pause button on Parliament until MARCH! To be honest, I don’t know how much this protest affected the prorogue, but it was a good time and good to see that thousands of Canadians care about how our democratic rights are affected.

Design in the City

So it was Design Week here in Toronto last week. Unfortunately I didn’t get to do loads of design week stuff, but i did make sure that i went out and supported the peeps, and immerse myself in art, culture and design. Radiant Dark, brought to you by the people at MADE showcased some new blood, among them Shana Anderson and Christine Lieu.

I also made it out to the Come Up To My Room event held at the Gladstone Hotel. Once again i was there to support my peers or as i referred to them earlier, my peeps, Lisa Keophila, Christine Lieu, and Kristen Lim Tung just to name a few. Walking around, looking at the beautiful rooms designed by some very talented people got me inspired. I think it’s about time that i stop making excuses and do a room next year. My good friend Patricia has already shaken on it and are going to do a room together, brainstorming session here we come!!!
